A peaceful morning in Cat’s garden
A week ago in my friend Cat Jones’s garden, I found my attention divided between her new canyon-side stock-tank pond topped with a glorious flowering crinum and the rolling green canyon vista itself. For a few minutes, the crinum won out, and I exclaimed jealously over the number of flowers.
At her front porch I paused, as always, to admire this Celtic figure cradling a bowl of blue glass beads and a stone heart.
Offering hands are a theme in her home and garden — a place where you feel immediately welcome and at home.
A pretty combo in the side garden: ‘Princess Caroline’ pennisetum and golden thryallis. An orange Pride of Barbados flower peeks over the thryallis’ shoulder.
And circling back around to the crinum pond with a canyon view — ahh, what a lovely spot to wait out the end of summer.
Check out Cat’s beautiful photos of her garden on her blog, The Whimsical Gardener, and her Instagram.

What a wonderful view. I love the idea of welcoming hands as a theme in one’s home and garden.
It fits her welcoming personality so well!
Sweet view.
It sure is.
Wow, Cat’s garden is stunning! I would have expected that, though. Yours is amazing, too, Pam! 🙂
She started with a great view and has been turning the foreground and front garden into lovely, personality-filled spaces for plants and wildlife. I always love seeing what’s new.
And thanks for the kind comment about mine too, Beth. 🙂
There must be something about Austin that creates the most unique gardens. And you manage to find them all!
I think there IS something about Austin, and the gardening culture is part of the reason I love living here. 🙂 Thanks for your kind comment, Robin.
