Garden Designers Roundtable riffs on design

February 12, 2010

If you’ve noticed the new badge on my sidebar for Garden Designers Roundtable, perhaps you’ve wondered what it’s all about. The Roundtable is a group of 23 professional garden and landscape designers from across the U.S. and Great Britain who have teamed up to post separately, on their own blogs, about monthly design topics. Last month I was thrilled to be invited to join the Roundtable, and my first post was on “Regional Diversity in Design.”
Approximately 8 to 12 of the Roundtable designers will blog on each month’s topic, giving each member four topics per year, plus a couple of semi-annual all-Roundtable discussions. February’s topic is “Foliage,” and you can bet I’m participating in that one, scheduled for February 23 (just a week after Foliage Follow-Up; don’t forget to take pics of your favorite foliage this month!). “Foliage” is a broad topic, obviously, and I’m already musing over my take on it. Broad topics like this are meant to allow each designer to bring his or her own interpretation to the subject. Check out the schedule for upcoming Roundtable topics.
Garden Designers Roundtable is made up of an amazingly talented group of people, among whom I’m utterly flattered to be included. With backgrounds as diverse as stockbroker, artist, and homegrown gardener—with decades of work experience, published books, and award-winning gardens between them—everyone still shares the perspective of designer and brings that experience to bear on his or her Roundtable posts. Check out the GDRT Bios page to learn more about each blogger’s background, philosophy, and home turf, so to speak. To participate in ongoing conversations sparked by GDRT posts or other design-related topics, check out the GDRT Facebook page and consider becoming a Fan.
I hope you’ll be interested in reading our posts for Garden Designers Roundtable and that the group will bring something new to the already extraordinary garden-blogging community.

    Pam,
It looks like the buzz around GDRT is starting to pick up, and with good reason. I’m almost a bit embarrassed to be included with such an impressive and prolific group of bloggers. I enjoyed reading everyone’s bio on the GDRT website and seeing the faces behind the blog.
It’s no surprise you’ll be writing about foliage this month for GDRT, I can’t wait to see your take on such a diverse topic. I may have to rely on old photos for my foliage follow-up post this month, most of my garden is covered in snow right now.
I look forward to seeing your GDRT post on foliage too, Debbie. I’m sure that your take on it will make for interesting reading, so no worries! I haven’t decided what my perspective will be yet but need to get on it.
I also look forward to seeing your Foliage Follow-Up post, but I hope you’ll use recent pics, even if it’s bare branches rather than foliage. The idea is that there’s something worth celebrating each month, even in winter. —Pam

  7. Jean says:

I will definitely be interested in reading the posts. I hope you all have a good cross section of the country (countries), as that’ll make it more interesting.
The group’s founders did look for representatives from different regions of the country, Jean. You can find out where everyone is from on the GDRT Bios page. Tara Dillard, Jenny Peterson, Susan Schlenger, and I are representing the southern U.S., so I hope we’ll have useful info for you in Louisiana. —Pam

  8. Me too, Pam. Can’t wait. I added it as a fan page on Facebook.~~Dee
