Cool beauty on first day of summer
June 20, 2008
The first day of summer surprised me with cooler temperatures. Up until about noon I was able to comfortably work in the garden, and I took advantage of the overcast skies and cooler, drier air (low 80s, I would guess) to deadhead my roses. Ah, this is what summer should be.
I think he thinks so too.
In the spirit of a cooler start to summer, visit fellow Austinite Tom Spencer’s site, Soul of the Garden, for refreshingly spring-like images of the Seattle Japanese Tea Garden, which he recently visited. The garden and his photographs are exquisite.

we had two days of rain much needed…the yard is alive again! have a gardening weekend!
It was cooler here too. It felt marvelous. I am glad you got a break from that triple digit
heat. UGH… I just love seeing your anole. He is posing for you.
Pam,
Wish we could get a break from the muggy heat but doubt that will happen for this Florida girl anytime soon. Glad you enjoyed the break- it’s always nice this time of year … beautiful photos today… and always. Meems@Hoe&Shovel
Pam, my car thermometer said 84 degrees at 2 PM – yesterday at that time it said 102 degrees. It was nice while it lasted.
Tom Spencer’s photos of the Seattle tea garden were wonderful!

Wasn’t today a wonderful surprise? We even had a short sprinkle. I’m hoping for a similar day tomorrow.

So nice to hear that you all got some relief from the heat. Hopefully, the cooler temperatures will last a few more days. I’m heading over now to see that tea garden.
I’m glad you were able to take advantage of the cooler weather and enjoy working in your garden.
We are still in the dry heat stage, but that may soon change with Monsoon season approaching. Your photos are lovely as usual.

So glad you got a much-needed break from the heat Pam.
I’m glad you got a brief break. I’m worried about your pruners rusting while you work under the sprinklers.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. That day of respite from the heat was delicious. MMD, no worries about the pruners. I oiled them well afterward. —Pam
Hello…it must have been delightful to get a break from the humidity and heat! Love the shot of the lizard!
Gail
The water lily is exquisite. I’m glad you had some relief from the heat. After reading Aiyana’s post about Arizona summer weather and your post here, I’m kind of glad the summers here are way cooler (but then we pay mightily by having long and cold winters).
It looks like you need to feed that lizard. Does a skinny lizard mean you have no more bugs to eat? Maybe just a lazy lizard. The heat just doesn’t seem to bother them. Your gardens are looking great in this heat.
