From a few days ago
I haven’t had time to update this blog with photos in the last several days, but here are a few from the 23rd.
Our native spiderwort and horsetail
I like this prehistoric-looking combination—the curliness of the spiderwort mixed with the reedy, straight horsetail. Plus both plants are named after animals (a fun idea for a children’s garden that I’ve seen at Zilker Botanical Garden, among other places). The horsetail is growing in a pot in the container pond, and the spiderwort leans over the pond from the surrounding planting bed.
Near the container pond, the dry streambed funnels run-off from the rain barrel during heavy rains. I like the textures and colors in this partly shady corner.
Cedar elm
The same tree back in April 2002. I had to look back at this photo from a few years ago to appreciate just how much the cedar elm has grown since I planted it. This is a beautiful tree in all seasons.
