Read my article and see B. Jane’s Austin garden in Garden Design magazine
When you pick up a copy of the Summer 2018 issue of Garden Design magazine — even better, subscribe to this no-ads, in-depth-writing, photo-rich quarterly magazine — you’ll find 144 pages of gardening goodness, including two articles I’d like to draw your attention to.
“Into the Woods” is an article I wrote about a rural New York garden created by the irrepressible Mark Veeder, who began planting before he’d even closed on the house.

At his property in upstate New York, Mark Veeder has created what can only be described as a plant-lover’s dream. Here, ‘Big Daddy’ and ‘Sum and Substance’ hostas, astilbe, and pink-blooming Filipendula rubra add cottage-garden charm. Texas readers, you’ll be especially interested in “Backyard Oasis,” an article about the personal garden of one of my favorite Austin designers, B. Jane. B.’s garden was included on the recent Garden Bloggers Fling tour, which I helped organize, so you might have seen recent photos on various bloggers’ websites. The photos in the magazine, taken by Austin photographer Ryann Ford, feature B.’s cutie-pie dog Brisket swimming in the pool.

“If you want a relaxing garden to just enjoy, you need three things: low-maintenance plants, privacy, and durable materials that don’t require a lot of upkeep.” —B. Jane of B. Jane Gardens. At her garden in Austin, Texas, B. Jane and her husband turned a neglected suburban property into an oasis designed for enjoyment and rejuvenation rather than active gardening. —Garden Design magazine
I hope you enjoy my article, and I’m off to read the rest of the magazine myself right now!

I read your article about Veeder’s garden in the new issue and loved it. Well done. You captured his love affair with that place really well.
I’m glad you thought so, Alison. Thanks!
Pam, I will be in NY state next week visiting family and wondered exactly where (town etc.) Mark’s garden is located.
He’s located in Forestburgh, NY (which I’m comfortable sharing since it’s in the article).
Yep, I read this article and didn’t even know you wrote it. I will have to go back to see your name in print. Well done I say. I loved the garden too.
The pics are wonderful, aren’t they?
Hello Pam! Congratulations on the nice feature story in the magazine, well done. What a lovely garden and a good article. It must have been fun to tour it. Looking forward to more adventures in the garden, Jeanne
Thanks for your comment, Jeanne. I hope you’ll visit again soon.
I got my copy of the magazine but haven’t opened it yet. I’ll check out both articles tonight!
Hope you enjoy them, Kris!
