Grand Teton grandeur

October 14, 2009

Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming
If you can widen your window, please do so you can see the whole image. Grainy though these scanned prints are, their panorama width gives a much better feel for the immensity of Grand Teton than a regular-size photo could.

We spent a few hours in Grand Teton in mid-May of 2000, during a week-long tour of Yellowstone. What stunning vistas greeted us around every bend.

I have a friend that is from Germany. This is his favorite park here in the US. I think he has been to them all. Maybe it reminds him of home.
Perhaps so, Lisa. I’ve never been to Germany, but I bet they have some magnificent mountains too. —Pam

I remember thinking, while seeing it on the PBS show, that I really must go there. I’m not sure you could find any grander grandeur than Grand Teton!
    I agree, Jean! —Pam

I’ve been to the Grand Tetons several times, and my reaction is always the same as we round the bend and catch our first sight of the Tetons towering over Jackson Lake…WOW! Now that is scenery that just gets in your face and forces you to pay homage to it. I’m always ready to go back to the Tetons and Yellowstone, there’s just nothing else like it. Not that I’ve experienced, anyway.
I would love to go back too, Mary. I didn’t get to see enough of it the first time. —Pam

Your list of parks you have visited must be quite long!!! Great photos.
Thanks, Janet. I’ve seen a few, but there are so many more I’ve not been to yet. —Pam

  5. I love all of the photos of the mountains and the parks you have visited. I haven’t been to any of the ones you’ve shown so it’s been a real treat seeing them. -Jackie
Thanks for reading, Jackie. 🙂 —Pam

How beautiful they are! I have seen them once when I was twelve and we went to see Yellowstone. I remember we had a wonderful dinner at Jackson Lake Lodge (when it was pretty new, I believe) with a gorgeous view of Jackson Lake and the mountains. The size of the huge fireplaces in the lobby of the lodge and the beautiful paintings of wild animals were a perfect match for that wonderful scenery! Thanks, Pam, for sharing your photos of such lovely places.
So many of the rustic, grand national park lodges are masterpieces themselves, Suzanne. I haven’t seen the one you mention, but with a view like that, how could you go wrong? —Pam

People seeing this landscape for the first time must have been quite astonished.
(Although some of them surely must have wondered, “Are we there yet?”)
You made me laugh, Chuck. Yes, I can imagine both reactions. —Pam

Stunning! And would you believe, I’ve *heard* of the Grand Tetons because my Dad has some Robert Wood prints.
