Come see my garden on tour this Saturday, Oct. 17th
After a year of preparation, it’s finally here: my first participation in a garden tour! This Saturday, October 17, from 9 am to 4 pm, my garden will be open to the public, along with 6 others, for the Inside Austin Gardens Tour. On the website, you can find it listed under “Oh, Deer!”
Hosted every 18 months by Travis County Master Gardener Assoc., the tour’s slogan is For Gardeners, By Gardeners, which speaks to the inspiring accessibility of the gardens on tour. As I’ve said before, this is not a mansion-laden tour of gardens maintained by landscaping crews but a peek into gardeners’ gardens, with all the passions, quirks, and real-life trial-and-error they offer.
My passions, if you don’t already know me from my blog, include agaves and other structural plants, ornamental grasses, being screech owl-friendly, getting rid of lawn, creating an interesting journey, and fun garden art. My main challenges are deer, dry shade, and erosive runoff when it rains. Does that resonate with you? If not, come anyway and see how the deer-, shade-, and slope-challenged garden!
Tour tickets may be purchased at each garden for $5 each or $20 for all. I’ll also have autographed copies of my book Lawn Gone! for sale for $20, if you’re looking for fall reading or an early holiday gift!

Sounds like a wonderful tour. Best of luck, but it looks fantastic.~~Dee
In the interest of full disclosure, these pics are not recent ones. My coneflowers are long gone, for example. But there are fall blooms just starting up, like aster, mistflower, and duranta. Good luck with your tour too, Dee! —Pam
Your garden is lovely. It’ll be a great hit.
Hope the weather is good. Hope this awful heat will go away.
Oh, me too, Linda. The forecast promises a little relief. —Pam
Your gardens, and your gardening style, have mesmerized me ever since I discovered your blog. I consider making the drive from Charlotte to Austin, just to visit them, but that probably won’t happen. Meanwhile, keep posting these lovely pictures so all of us non-traveling gardeners can continue to enjoy. Thanks ever so much for your blog.
What a lovely compliment, June. Thank you! I wish you lived closer so you could come. At least a blog can deliver a far-away garden to your computer, right? 🙂 —Pam
Looks like you are ready. I wish I could come there for the tour.
I wish you could too, Lisa! —Pam
Have fun with the tour. Your garden will be the tour favorite.
Too bad there is another big garden tour on the same day. It could be difficult getting around town to see them all without feeling rushed.
Yes, it’s unfortunate to have two on one weekend. But they are very different tours, and I hope people will choose ours, or at least make time for some of both! —Pam
Looking forward to seeing your lovely and interesting garden on Saturday!
Thanks, Sherry! I’m glad you can come! —Pam
It looks beautiful, Pam! Have a great day with your guests!
Thanks, Tatyana! —Pam
I wish you kind weather and just the right number of visitors in friendly batches.
I’ll continue to enjoy your virtual garden from across the pond.
Thanks for the good wishes, Diana! —Pam
Good luck with the tour, Pam. I’ll be there in spirit. Sadly, not in material form.
I’m sorry you can’t make it, Peter, but thanks for the good wishes. —Pam
Wish I could tour in person, Pam! I’m hoping that there may be a Garden Bloggers Fling back in Austin one of these years, and I’ll be able to see your garden with my own eyes. Hope tour goes well and is fun for you!
Jane, as it happens, plans are being laid. Hope to see you here one day. —Pam
Would that I could, Pam! Have a great day!
Thanks, Kris! —Pam
I’ll echo what June said: thanks so much for the great photos, so that all your far-flung readers can enjoy your wonderful garden. Your visitors will love it. Have a terrific Saturday!
Thanks so much, Luisa, for your kind words. 🙂 —Pam
I’m reading the Oudolf book and just finished The Annotated Secret Garden and The Gardens of Arne Maynard. Love Arne’s work and his own garden, even tho it’s not my style. Bought a crazy number of garden books this summer! I am sure your garden will be a big hit this Saturday.
Thanks for sharing your book recommendations, Linda. I haven’t heard of either of the two you mentioned and will go check them out. And thanks for the tour wishes too. —Pam
