Gimme some Dirt Therapy

A recent comment by a new blogger led me to visit his site, Dirt Therapy. Wow, the doctor is in! Phillip Oliver, a gardener in Florence, Alabama, and his partner, Michael, have transformed a typical suburban lawn into a riot of color and fantastic garden rooms. Some of their creative structures really caught my eye, including a hanging chandelier planted with coleus and the purple wall pictured above. As you may know, I love color in the garden, and Phillip knows how to tie the color of his plants (see those purple irises?) to the color of his garden structures. The scene above looks very “secret garden” to me, and I’d love to explore this colorful room in person.
While new to blogging, Phillip has for 10 years maintained a gardening website called A Southern Garden. He’s hoping that blogging will give him a reason to write about gardening more frequently.
I hope so too, especially if he’ll be posting lots of eye candy like this. That’s the kind of therapy we all need!

Thanks for the tip on Phillip Oliver’s blog. I have visited the Southern Garden site several times just to peruse the photos of his beautiful garden. I really like the chronological presentation of the photos.
You have a great site. It’s always a pleasure to visit.
Thanks for stopping by, Carol. At first I thought you were Carol from May Dreams Gardens, but when I clicked on the link I realized you were a new Carol, and in nearby Dripping Springs, no less. You have a nice site with lots of good information. I’ll be checking in with you again soon. —Pam

Wow! I hadn’t run across this blog yet. Thanks so much for introducing me to it!
You’re welcome. I’m happy to spread the word when I find a site/garden that bowls me over. —Pam

  3. This is the kind of candy I can never have enough of and it doesn’t put the pounds on you either. 😉 Love that purple wall, not surprising of course, as purple is my favorite colour and I’m also very partial to a bit of colour in the garden. Thanks for the link Pam!
Yes, let’s have more calorie-free candy! —Pam

Oh, wow! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. What vision they have. Thanks for telling us about it, Pam.
They do. And you’re welcome. —Pam

I don’t know why, but that garden reminded me of the much less tasteful, but even more colorful Luna Parc. It was featured in the NY Times several years ago. There’s a virtual tour here:

Thanks for the link, Entangled. The whimsy and exuberance of that garden (and house) are astonishing. But aside from the colorfulness, I don’t see much of a similarity between the two. I enjoyed the tour though! —Pam
