Have a bright and merry Christmas!

December 17, 2014

Several neighbors on a nearby street go all out with Christmas lights and inflatables every year, and we enjoy crawling past with our headlights dimmed to take it all in. This is my favorite display on the block.

It’s a fantasia of colored lights that run vertically up a large tree and turn to dripping icicles at the tips of the branches.

A rainbow of miniature Christmas trees adorns the lawn, and colorful rivulets spill off the eaves of the house onto bushes below, splashing them with bright color.

The tree even wears a skirt of banded light.

I love the creativity of the display and look forward to seeing it each year. And I look forward to seeing you next year, dear reader. Happy holiday wishes to you and your loved ones, and I’ll see you in 2015!

Santa hats off! What a display! That’s an especially nice touch with the colors “dripping” off the roof. I too hope your neighbors are aware of how widely appreciated their efforts are. I can’t imagine how many people it took (or how long) to get this sort of a display organized.

From pre-Trail of Light Days I still remember making the drive up Congress Avenue as a child to see the lights and the tree on the Capital grounds. Everything seemed so magical then, and if I squint just so? It still does.

    Happy Holidays!

We live at the end of a country road, so no lights like this, but this is deep sky country and the stars are magnificent.

We have as usual the single strand outlining the front porch, while our neighbors are devotees of the more-is-more style. I love what your neighbors have done with that large tree — I can’t imagine climbing/laddering up our parkway jacarandas to string lights, but that would be magical. Happy holidays, Pam!

I’ve never seen someone do lights on the ground like that. Beautiful work!
