And the front door’s new color is…

May 25, 2014

Turquoise, with a greenish bronze on the sidelights. Something different, eh?

You wouldn’t believe how many bad color choices I made last week to get here. Or maybe you would. I am picky about color, but I have never been able to pick the right color on the first try. If I’m lucky I repaint once. I was not lucky this time. I painted various combinations of sidelight and door colors four times. I’m grateful to my friend Cat who helped me find the right hue when I was nearly at my wit’s end.

If you’re curious, the sidelight color is Benjamin Moore “Dragon’s Breath,” the door is Sherwin Williams “Cloudburst,” and the body color is Sherwin Williams “Mega Greige.”

As a reminder, here’s how it looked before. I liked the colors but not the way the white sidelights stood out more than the green door. And it didn’t coordinate with the new bronze windows. (Click for my post about the new windows, and my thanks to all who made color suggestions on that post!)

And here’s Cosmo being all Zen, just because. You can see I like turquoise in the back garden too.

Yay for the turquoise! And both other colors as well…looks really great!

It’s a GOOD color. Enjoy! I have a bunch of turquoise “art” on the side of our beige-colored shed, so I’m a little prejudiced.

Love that door! That turquoise is a favorite of mine, good job!

Juuuust right. I don’t think it matters if you didn’t get it first try because you sure enough got it. Really nice – the door draws attention without yelling and then shares the visual interest. And maybe it’s my imagination but it looks like the door/sidelight color combo is also bringing out blue and green tones in your roof I didn’t notice before. Yay! You must be enjoying this so much every time you pull up to your house!?

    It looks fantastic! LOVE IT.

  9. Cheryl says:

Love the door but the sides in Dragon’s Breath are a bit too dark for me. Still, it looks very classy. I have a turquoise front door and an orange side door. Not classy but then, neither am I. LOL

Oh, great color! I love a front door that stands out!

I would believe it! I ended up buying 20 different sample paint cans at $7 a pop to get juuuust the right color to coordinate with our stained concrete floor. Wit’s end, indeed! The entry looks fabulous!

  12. Heidi says:

Painting the sides darker was perfect, it all looks fantastic. Now your cool chair and hanging planter really pop, job well done!

  13. Jenny says:

I think choosing color is one if the hardest thing you have to do for a house. I love this color. I think it is a close match to the English color known as Wade blue after the architect Charles Wade of Snowshill Manor. You clearly have the eye.

  14. Tim says:

    Love the new color!

  15. Sherry says:

Love the “new” entry way! The whole house just looks fabulous, especially from across the street!

  16. Ohhh! I love the bronzy color with the turquoise! It looks fantastic!

  17. Lisa at Greenbow says:

It was worth all the anxiety. You have perfect colors at and on your front door. How could you miss with Dragon’s breath?

  18. ricki says:

And with that hanging planter as an accent…just perfect.

  19. Kate S. says:

Ah. Perfection. I’ve been wanting to paint our front door this color, too, so I’m envious! Love the combo with Dragon’s Breath, the amazing planter, and all the front changes. Looks like all the hard work and multiple changes were worth it!

  20. Great (final) choice Pam. Love how everything just works, from the windows, to the sidelights, the roof and of course the hover dish planter, perfection!

  21. Susan says:

It is perfect! I love how it sets off the hanging pot!
