Rich spring color

April 25, 2007

An old red motel chair picks up the red from the Texas betony. Yellow zexmenia and purple iris provide contrast. I love these rich jewel tones.
I’m off to the nursery today to pick up a few plants for the front garden. I always promise myself not to plant anything after mid-April because the heat is coming soon, and it’s harder to keep plants alive when you plant in the spring versus the fall here in Austin. Ah well. Good intentions and all that. I’ve simply got to get a few of the plants from my wish list that sprang from the Austin bloggers’ tour.
Meanwhile, a few more spring photos from my back garden.

  1. I stopped by Gardens yesterday for some basil and could hardly contain myself. I haven’t bought a lot of plants the last few years but this has been such a good spring, that I’m all excited about planting again–especially after seeing what everyone else is growing. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a good time of year to be planting anything and try to content myself with bulb purchases from the catalogs.
Ooh, that’s a dangerous place to be “uncontained!” 😉 I went a little bonkers at BSN this morning too, so I know I’ll be dragging the hose around a lot this spring. I had a great time though and took some pics, so I’ll be posting a “tour” of BSN soon. —Pam

I’m waiting to see what you’re planting, Pam. On a day like today I have to hold myself back from a trip to the garden store. I’ll be looking forward to visiting BSN vicariously through your “tour.”
I’m excited about the heartleaf skullcap you so kindly gave me (passalong plants are so nice; none of the guilt!). I’ve been watching the spot I have in mind to make sure it gets enough sun and I think it will be perfect.
It’ll do fine in mostly shade too. Enjoy! —Pam
