Austin bloggers meet Amy Stewart—and go public
Me, M. Sinclair Stevens of Zanthan Gardens, visiting author Amy Stewart, Annie of The Transplantable Rose, and Julie Ardery of Human Flower Project. Annie and I have never posted photos of ourselves before, preferring to let our words and garden photos represent us, but today we decided to go public. (How else to show off our photo with a famous author?)
The Austin garden bloggers came out in force to support Amy Stewart’s book reading at Book People yesterday. Four of us showed up to meet fellow blogger Amy, pose for a few snapshots, and hear her read from her new book, Flower Confidential. Meeting Amy in person was a treat. If you’ve read her books, you know that her writing is delightful. In person, as in her books, she is engaging, warm, and funny.

At the end of her reading, Amy pointed out the blogger gang and said some nice words about us. Thanks, Amy. We also met Jill Nokes, a well-known landscape designer and author who was in the audience. All in all, it was quite a fun evening.
Off topic for this post. But I am obliged to inform you that you have been tagged.
I just started reading her book after reading a review. It’s a fascinating book and reminds me of The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. Great blog; makes me homesick.
Cheers,

From one Austinite to another, thanks for dropping by, Patrick. —Pam
It’s nice sometimes to put a face with a blog, and it must have felt special for Amy to point you all out. I assume you Austin bloggers had met before, or perhaps not?
Yes, we’ve met several times over the last year at one or the other of our gardens. It’s been great fun for me to meet these wonderful writers in person and get to know them. —Pam
How nice to put names to faces… and what a gorgeous bunch of garden bloggers you all make! 🙂
Thanks, Kim. It was a leap for several of us to put our faces out there, but we each decided that privacy is practically an illusion anyway, so why not enjoy the fun of personal photos. —Pam
So much for the impersonal nature of the internet. Look at all those smiling happy faces!
Austin must be the gardening blog capital of the world!
Yes, I think so too! And there are several more that weren’t there that evening. —Pam
What a lovely time you all had. Wish I could have been there too. How nice to finally put a face to some of the garden bloggers I’ve met on the internet.
Wish I could’ve been there- But it was my husband’s birthday.
We missed you. See you next time! —Pam
Nice to meet you all, in a virtual manner! We (Buffalo gardeners) were just discussing over drinks tonight about how Austin is the coolest place ever.
Beautiful bloggers and blogs!
I’m glad you decided to go public…it’s nice to put faces with names. You do have a nice little group there in Austin 🙂
What fun to meet Amy Stewart in person! Sounds like such a lovely night.
