Chicago Spring Fling site is up
We Austin garden bloggers, hosts of the first Garden Bloggers Spring Fling meet-up in 2008, are delighted to pass the baton for the 2nd annual Spring Fling to the welcoming Chicago gals and guys.
Today they announced new details about the Fling on their event website, Chicago Gardeners. Spring Fling 2009 is open to any garden blogger and will be held May 29-31. Attendees will tour the Lincoln Park Conservatory, the Piet Oudolf-designed Lurie Garden, Grant Park’s rose garden, and Carolyn Gail‘s private garden. I’m ready to pack my bags right now. Hmm, I just checked Chicago’s weather forecast, and I think I can wait until spring.
I am hoping that many of Austin’s garden bloggers will make the trip to represent our garden-blog-crazy city. Assuming travel costs are manageable, I will be there to reconnect with blogging friends and make new ones and see the great gardens of Chicago.

Some of the blogging gals in my area are planning a little visit to Blue Moon Gardens when it warms up. Guess that’s our “scaled down” version of the spring fling!

Mini-Spring Flings are lots of fun too. Have a great time at Blue Moon Gardens, Brenda. —Pam
I was so sad that I didn’t get to go to Austin for the first Spring Fling. Chicago is closer to home. I can definitely make it up there. Can’t wait.
I hope to meet you there, Lisa! —Pam
Hi Pam, I’m sorry I didn’t get to Austin, but very excited to welcome Austin to Chicago. Hope you can make it. Thanks for helping get the word out!
My pleasure, Linda. Thanks for bringing Spring Fling to Chicago this year. —Pam
Hi Pam, this is so exciting. I hope to see you in Chicago!
Frances
I sure hope to see you there, Frances. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And there’s definitely a will. —Pam
If you come a day early, you can visit my garden on Friday. Yes, there’s a not very attractive kids play set plunked down on the lawn, but we’ll try to overlook that. The weather should be beautiful at the end of May, I’d wager very nearly perfect, unless it rains.
I’d love to visit Squirrelhaven, MMD. Would I be able to make it if I flew into Chicago in the morning? —Pam
You Austin garden bloggers are inspiring. I found two other bloggers in my little town and now I’m thinking of our own mini-fling!
Hi, Wicked Gardener. If you have a mini-Fling, you won’t regret it. Local get-togethers have led to some treasured friendships for me and lots of fun outings. Not to mention some lovely passalong plants. —Pam
Pam,
It’s going to be fun! Looking forward to seeing everyone. gail
Me too! —Pam
I’m crossing my fingers and desperately hoping I can afford it. I’ve wanted to see the Lurie Garden for ages and ages, and the ideal way to do it would be with fellow gardeners.
I’m planning to go while doing some of my own hoping for affordability, Lori. Much will hinge on the hotel room rate. But it would be heartbreaking to miss the Chicago Fling after the fun we had here in Austin last year. —Pam
Busy catching up on some of your posts. Glad to know that you’re planning to visit us for Spring-Fling in Chicago. I’ve been busy practicing my granny skills and I’ll have to put a lot of gardening on the back burner this coming season as I am going to be the caregiver for her five days a week. That leaves weekends to do my own thing.
I’m hoping and praying that the weather will be great that weekend for the many interesting events planned. So sorry that I missed the Austin Spring-Fling last year.
I am sorry too that you couldn’t come last year, but I look forward to meeting you and seeing your beautiful garden this year, Carolyn Gail. Thanks for being one of the planners/hosts! —Pam
Yea! I can’t wait! I’m looking forward to meeting lots of new bloggers from around the country!
Me too! —Pam
