Wary, wild-eyed screech owl chicks
May 03, 2012
Around 3 pm this afternoon, we noticed one of the screech owlets staring out at us from inside the box. He or she is not yet brave enough to perch on the door rim and look out, but this is the second time I’ve seen them gazing out at the world. Using my telephoto lens through the dining room window, I was able to get these grainy shots of one of the wild-eyed chicks.
I know there are at least two chicks in there, and they’re pretty big. I wonder how many weeks until they’re ready to leave the nest?

Adorable. You know he sees you much better than you see him. Wide eyed indeed!
He is very big now! Can’t be that much longer before he gives us a better look. His curiosity about his surroundings will urge him towards that opening to at least perch there and look around soon at the big wide world.
Oh my goodness, they are so cute!
What fun having these little cuties to watch. It won’t be long before they are out and about.
I haven’t seen our chicks yet, but I know they’re out-Mama is always alert these days. Unlike you, I can’t see Dad, but I think he’s in the neighbor’s tree. I’m eagerly awaiting my first sighting of our babies.
He is big. It won’t be long now!
Our Mama has emerged — perhaps I should use a telephoto on our owl house, too — I’m eagerly hoping we’ll see little big eyes! Very exciting, Pam!
