Upper patio garden, succulent wall & new mod chairs

April 10, 2012

When the aloes are in bloom, everything seems right with my upper patio garden, viewed here from below, in the mid-level garden. They add a punch of hot color that contrasts so well with the chartreuse greens of spring.

Looking past them to the cinderblock wall planter that anchors one side of the upper patio, you can see another aloe, a tiny one, in bloom too. Those are Mexican serving trays, faded by the sun, hanging on the fence.

And climbing the steps up to the patio, you see my new lime-green mod chairs from Buchanan’s in Houston. Aren’t they fun? And while they may not look it, they’re actually comfortable too. I took my laptop and worked outside here for a while yesterday, soaking up the beautiful spring weather.

Is it patio time where you live?

Very nice Pam. I love those chairs! I have planted my block wall with smaller type grasses this year.

  4. Oh ya…love those chairs! Good find Pam.

Nope…not patio time here yet. We’re coming of a seasonably warm stretch of 3 days, but now back to the cold with a little rain mixed in for fun.

  5. It’s patio…or porch…time here, year round. We have a heater for winter, and a fan for summer. We’re the outdoor sort. 🙂

Love those aloes and the chairs are really nice accents.

Looking fabulous! It seems aloes had a very comfy winter – mine are going bananas as well. Do you apply a clear coat to those hanging trays to prevent sun bleaching?

I didn’t, but that might be a good idea. Mine are in the shade, and I thought they wouldn’t fade. But the sun has its way with things, even in shade. —Pam

That whole scene looks rad. I love those chairs.

  8. Someone was inspired by Marfa hipsterisms! Nice chairs, regardless, and those should stay cool even with the sun out.

Watch out—I’ll be wearing skinny jeans next. (Not!) —Pam

Yes it is patio time here in SW Indiana. It is a little cool today and the next few days but until now we have had unseasonally warm weather so I have been keeping time on the patio. I still haven’t got all my pots potted which is a good thing since it is supposed to freeze tonight and tomorrow night. Where did spring go?? Must be in Austin.

  10. Love those chairs! The patio is very inviting and I’m smitten by the aloes. It’s not yet patio time here, so how about I come over shortly with a bottle of wine and sit a spell with you? 😉

    Come on over, Jane! —Pam

Oh yes…it’s been a fabulous few days here in PDX…a lovely weekend followed by even lovelier weather these past few days…then again, I’m a fan of cool and cloudy…as long as I’m dry 😉

I love the chairs! They are tres chic and fit nicely in your garden. And right you are about patio weather. My husband made a picnic table a few weeks ago and I’ve already spent hours on the bench. I tell myself to enjoy it before the mosquitoes are out in full force.

  13. Definitely patio time in SC!! Enjoy all our outside sitting areas. Finally got chairs to put down by the lake on the stone patio…so there are many places to sit and enjoy all the birds singing!
I love that cinder block wall, have it bookmarked from when you posted it long ago….one idea I hope to find a place to make my own.

We put out table and chairs on our piazza during our brief false spring – but we haven’t enjoyed them since. Back to wishing for spring and rain.

  15. This my first visit to your lovely blog. The patio garden looks great with those very cool lime green chairs. Also, the cinder block wall planter is a great idea! I’ll be back to visit for sure.
    All the best! 🙂

Thanks for visiting, Beth, and welcome! —Pam

You patio looks such a welcoming relaxed area. I fell in love with your block wall planter quite a while back when I first saw it and finally talked my husband into building one for me. I’m looking for succulents to fill it at the moment. (They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery.)

I agree, Missy. In fact, I copied the cinderblock-wall idea from a photo I saw online. Have fun making your wall your own! —Pam

    Lovely plants!
It has been patio time here in northern Mississippi until last night’s temperature dropped to 36 degrees – Yikes!
I covered my vegetable garden, the flowers are on their own. I will go out later this morning to inspect everything.
