Swimming

‘Colorado’ water lily
The high temperature has been over 100 degrees every day for several days. No rain, and none in the forecast. Going swimming is the only way to stay cool. The water plants agree. I took these photos of water lilies at my child’s school. They are thriving in a galvanized stock-tank container pond, like my own only much bigger (8 feet in diameter), with lots of room for water lilies.

Water lily (type unknown)

“Crocodile” Barbie, spotted as a hood ornament in Hyde Park. Keepin’ Austin Weird!

    I love water lilies. I can’t wait to have a little pond…
I used to run by that truck with the Barbie on it all the time when we lived in Hyde Park. Looks like Barbie is a bit newer and cleaner nowadays.

She does have artfully applied dirt on her calves, as if she really has been riding through the swamps on her gator.

  3. There are photos of a Colorado lily somewhere in Soul of the Garden, too. Is it an especially good one for the area? The color is so gorgeous. Pond lust, pond lust. If you like the Barbie, you would have loved the Liberty Hill pond. Maybe a stock tank is the way to go!

Annie, it IS a gorgeous water lily, but I don’t know anything about it other than the name. I think you’re right about Tom Spencer having one in his garden.
Stock tank ponds are easy, Texas-y, and fun! I highly recommend one.
