Bundle up! It's hot out there
Flame acanthus
It’s back to the hot and muggy. The mosquitoes are happy and active. Despite the heat, I bundled up in a zipped jacket over jeans to photograph the garden this evening. I think it worked. The only exposed skin was on my face and my hands, and though the mosquitoes tried to land on my fingers I was able to shake them off. A few blurry photos resulted, but I won’t show you those.

‘Goldsturm’ rudbeckia. I know all you garden bloggers must be tired of viewing my black-eyed Susans by now, but they just love the camera. What hams!

I did they same thing yesterday: got completely covered up to hang out in 90-plus degree weather. I can’t believe how many mosquitoes are around right now!
The mosquitoes are horrible! The first bug spray I used did nothing – had to buy one with a higher percentage of repellent.
Pam, this is the first year my Mexican Oregano have bloomed, and I like them so much! Will your fabulous, and enormous plants keep flowering through summer, or is this big show going to stop with July/August heat?
Annie, my Mexican oregano was still blooming last September, as I see in last year’s photos, but I don’t know whether it was a second bloom following a pruning or not. It does respond well to pruning, and mine gets so big early in the spring that I always prune it by half in May, delaying its summer bloom by about a month. Heat doesn’t bother this plant. Wish I could say the same for myself.
