Succulent goodness for Monday morning
December 06, 2010
Got the Monday morning blues? I do—with blue chalk fingers (Senecio mandraliscae).
‘Bloodspot’ mangave’s purple freckles make me pretty happy too.
Close-ups of succulents always reveal such interesting details: stripes, spots, light-tipped spines. Whether on the windowsill or in the garden, succulents reward the close observer.

Your succulent goodness looks very good, Pam! Spotted beauty is very impressive! My agaves got bitten by a cold before I took them indoors. I hope they will survive.
I hope they only got a nip and will not suffer for it, Tatyana. —Pam
They do offer such detail. Are you not freezing this morning like the rest of us?
No, I think it was right around 32 this morning, and these are in a warm spot near a heat-reflecting stone wall. I only cover them if it’s expected to dip well into the 20s. —Pam
Love the mangave ‘Bloodspot’. It reminds me of a type of bromeliad. Another plant for the list.
It’s a very cool little plant, Kat. ‘Bloodspot’ likes part shade or dappled shade in a hot climate, which is an advantage for me, as I have a LOT of shade. —Pam
I love the Bloodspot mangave-must get another one, mine died in a hurricane.
Succulents are fun because they come in such interesting colors and shapes. We have some in our Master Gardener demonstration garden and they are fun to photograph.
Love the agave. It has so much personality with those spots and lined edges etc. I hope you are feeling better now. Cheers.
I love your close up shots. The spots are really a great addition to an already interesting plant.
